Scale models come in a variety of sizes which confuses a lot of people. Simply put, if a scale model is 1:18, it is 18 times smaller than the original vehicle. If it is 1:43, it would be 43 times smaller, and so on.
One would think that bigger the scale model, the better, as it would allow one to “view” inside. But it is not always the case because if the scale model is not well built (which typically comes at a premium price), the defects and poor material will be clearly visible. Also, it hoards a lot of space, making it infeasible for smaller display cases and collects dust after sometime, forcing one to face the horror of cleaning the insides. On the other hand, small models such as 1:64 would be too small for the display case as well.
Therefore, the clear winner is the 1:43 model. It is the international favorite scale and with a size of 4-5 inches for cars and 10-12 inches for buses & trucks. It is neither too big nor too small and also has the largest collection of scale models in its size, keeping display case uniform and clean. It also has one other major advantage which is price. Instead of spending, sayRs. 10, 000 for a 1:64 model, 1:43 comes at only Rs.2500 comparatively, making it economical and a sensible purchase at the same time.
